I'm envious of Ed Ross. He makes ambrotypes and tintypes and I don't. It is a difficult processes and the only way to get good at it is to do it again and again. And that is what Ed is doing.
I wanted to meet Ed this summer while I was in San Francisco to pick his brain about the process. I learned to make wet plate images the summer before, but in the process of putting together all the chemicals and cameras and lenses and paraphernalia. . . well, I just didn't.
But every time I see one of Ed's images, I am driven wild with Envy (and, perhaps, some other of the Deadly Sins as well). He has a penchant for costuming and minimal sets that reminds me of the photos I want to take.
I asked Ed if I could link him here, and he graciously obliged. You can get to his blog by clicking here. I hope you enjoy his images as much as I do.
yes, very nice images. The minimalism of the sets is what works for me.
ReplyDeleteI love hats. But I'm sort of weary of tits with all their "we're so artistic aren't we? aren't we?"
ReplyDeleteI think I've told you that before. I'm in the minority I know. And I know I know "you aren't trying to make art ..." blah blah blah

P.S. No offense to Mr. Ross who might or might not visit to see his work posted here -- tin types are waaaaaay cool and I totally "get" his look is exceptional -- this participant is a pill and needs and wants more than titillation.
Work Harder. Everyone
Sorry, Lisa, those were my choices, not Ed's. He has a lot more than that in his portfolio. Besides, there is only one. But I happen to like them. I thought everyone did. They were the things I wanted most as an infant.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I hope you are attacking my sensibilities and not Mr. Ross's. He is my invited guest. I hope I've not misrepresented him.
C.S.
ReplyDeleteI'm not attacking anyone's sensibilities --I'm expressing my own and reacting to stuff posted on the world wide web.
I'm not such a good guest.
I went to Mr. Ross' blog and looked at all his posts -- fyi.
P.S.
I don't think I like blogs. But please don't be offended.
flounce.
Thank you for posting my plates -- it is an honor to be noticed on, and included in, such a great blog.
ReplyDeleteIn response to Ms. Nickerson, I don't consider myself an artist, with a message to impart and a career to promote. In fact, I'm a lawyer. I shoot tintypes as a hobby. And I shoot what makes me and the models happy. If others like them, that's great. If others don't, that's too bad.
Best Regards, Ed
