Ideas and Things

No ideas but in things. That's what William Carlos Williams declared. Battered things, I say. Old watches and pens and leather bags and wooden furniture that can almost be restored. Old films and vinyl records and your great uncle's old Leica. The rest of it is just theory without proof. Old things. Good things. Rare things almost lost. Saturated things and faded things and things that are distressed. There be ideas. There be poems.

  2. I like this photo too. The woman seems genuinely happy -- it is rare to see that in adults these days (especially captured in a photo I suppose I mean).

Happiness doesn't seem all that popular.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

    When the dog bites
    When the bee stings
    When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
