Another Halloween come and gone. More tricksters than treaters this year. I had a plan. I was going to watch "Howl" last night. It sounded just right. What better than a Howl on Halloween. It is the new film about Allen Ginsburg's poetry/obscenity trial, but the title was right. I've been holding off watching it until Halloween. And so after the tricksters were no longer knocking, I sat down to buy it from Pay Per View. This is new to me. I've only just gotten the ability to do this. I couldn't wait.
"This movie is not currently available."
What? How could it not be available. I thought it merely a digital faux-pas and tried it again. Same message. Maybe there were thousands of people watching it at that time thinking it was a scary movie. I don't know how this works. But I was sorely disappointed.
And so the night wore on, me watching the World Series and the Gang of Freaks from San Francisco who continue to surprise everybody. I love watching them. I haven't watched a baseball game all year, but this San Fran team (learned some time ago never to say 'Frisco--but I miss the working class sound of that) reminds me of better times when there were a lot of loose canons winning things, when life was about individuality and freedom and the fight against tyranny. "What?" you exclaim. "You get this from the World Series, that capitalist enterprise where men get rich from overly-priced stadium seats and network contracts?" Yes, I reply sheepishly. I try not to think about that. I'm trying to think about San Francisco vs. Texas. Doesn't even sound fair, right? Peace, Love, and Understanding vs. Death Row. No other team would have interested me. None other would do.
And they won again last night, beating Texas in their own home stadium somewhere outside of Dallas. That was what I had rather than "Howl." That and a big bowl of leftover bite sized Snickers.
And now for The Correction: We don't turn back the clocks until next week. Sometime. I don't know. But I woke at four-thirty again this morning and tried to figure out if I was going to be better or worse off when we do. Couldn't. I'm worried about it, though.
So here's a photo of one of the Tricksters that came around last night in their Halloween masks. Trick or Treat?
wow, I didn't have anyone come to my door that looked like that...you live in such an interesting neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteYes, I tend to attract the older tricksters.
