So sings Bill Gorton in "The Sun Also Rises." Hemingway was censored, of course. Ellipses sat for the rime as Maxwell Perkins was a prudish editor about such things. Scribners was not going to publish the word "shitty." But wait. . . shitty should be capitalized, shouldn't it? "When you're feeling Shitty, Give them Irony and Give them Pity." Yes, that would make more sense given Hemingway's use of capitalization.
