At a White House press briefing, NRC chairman Greg Jaczko did not directly answer a question on whether the nation's 104 existing nuclear reactors could withstand the magnitude of the quake that struck Japan.
"We have a strong safety program in place to deal with seismic events that are likely to happen at any nuclear facility in this country," Jaczko said. (source)
Colorado Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn, who unsuccessfully tried to strip federal funding for NPR last year, introduced the new stand alone bill Tuesday. It would bar any of NPR's affiliate radio stations across the country from using any federal funds to purchase any programming from NPR. (source)
Dripping with tiger blood and coursing with warlock power, fired "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen has announced five more stops on his tour, "My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not An Option Show."
The first two shows -- Chicago and Detroit -- sold out in minutes. (source)
I worked in the studio until one last night. Didn't eat. Drank whiskey. I was already dead before it started. Slept a few hours and now must go to the factory job. First, a cup of coffee and the news. And this is what I get.
Everything is due. This is what you get. This is what we all get. C.C. likes to reference "Unforgiven" when The Schofield Kid kills his first man.
"He had it coming, didn't he? He had it coming?" the Kid asks Bill Munny.
"We all got it coming, kid," rejoinders Bill.
I just found out I live close (about 40 miles) from the second riskiest plant in the United States. I've got some of those pills on reserve though. But shit, it'd be too late anyway I think.
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying reading about cameras because it makes no sense to me whatsoever. I don't get it -- do cameras make people take better photos? or just a different type of photo? Is a good image with a bad camera -- bad? Is a bad image with a good camera good?
I would think that all the stuff you do afterward is where the real manipulation happens but in the words of a favorite person of mine --- what the fuck do I know.
Cameras make people take better pictures as paint brushes makes paintings better. They make the image different. Art doesn't lay with the materials, but materials limits what can be done. You can't do a color drawing with a charcoal stick, but you can make a nice charcoal drawing. You can get a Holga plastic camera for about $20. People make the most lovely images with them you can want to see. Of a sort. The camera stores are full of people who own all the latest gear and can talk about it for hours who are still preparing to make their "masterpiece." Cameras and lenses are just tools in the toolbox. My father was a tool and dye maker. You should have seen his toolbox! So many tools. Many were specialized and looked exotic. He was fairly famous at his craft. People who worked in his field or who needed someone who did what he did knew him. The tools didn't make him good, but he needed them. And I think he loved them, too.
ReplyDeleteYep -- the most mechanical art. Photography.
ReplyDeleteI guess. If you don't consider writing with a typewriter or computer as art.
