It is easy to make mistakes when people are looking for them. . . waiting. It is a horrible existence because you know you will. You have no doubt. So the person with the smile can tell you what a nice job you have done. . . and wait. The word "pressure" is accurate. That is what you feel, and virtual weight. It presses upon you. And this is the talent of the malevolent boss. The smarmy smile, the blithe manner. . . the waiting.
There is another type who knows well that you will make mistakes, but the smile is sympathetic. Do your best, it says. That is all we can ask.
Malevolence.
