SOS. AFU.

A few days ago, I saw a blonde on what appeared to be a vintage Vespa.  I say vintage because it didn't look like a Vespa and it had no markings.  But it looked like something that had been reconstructed from a sixties bike.

Yesterday, I saw the bike parked on the Boulevard.  I walked over to peruse it and to find a brand.  There wasn't any.  Then the girl walked up.

"What kind of bike is this?"

"It's a Chinese scooter."

"Really!?  Where'd you get it?"

She told me.  It was a little scooter shop just down the street.  A bit later, I drove down to see.  And man, what a find.  They had all sorts of vintage looking scooters from a variety of Chinese makers.

"How much are these?" I asked.

They were all around $1,100 or about $750 used.  I've been thinking of getting a Vespa, but they are far too proud of them.  I can't justify spending that kind of money.  But $750!  Count me in.  They didn't have the bike I wanted just then, but they will next week.  With a 150 cc engine, it will go around 45 mph.  It is perfect for around town.  And I will be a known character once again.

I know that if it is a Chinese bike, there are many things wrong with it, that it will not last, so when I got home, I Googled them.  True and not true, it seems.  The engines and transmissions are all made with parts from other companies.  The one I am looking at is made up of mostly Honda parts.  Older ones.  so it is not the parts but the construction.  The sites I looked at recommended doing a few things which I will do.  That done, the authors said, the bike will run like a champ.

Suddenly, then, there is something to live for.

My mother will have a fit.

I am blue and staying in the house away from the throng, so I have nothing to report.  SOS.  AFU.

The image is a Fuji creation.  We were dancing the Tango.  She is a groovy chick.

  2. Just think you can put your electronic gadgets in the basket, motor into town, have a seat at best bistro table at the outdoor cafe of choice and kindle or i-pad away. All the while looking very hip.

Hope you get your new wheels. Scooters are cool.

    :)
