The Impossible Romance of Things Far Away

I'm a badly romantic fool.  Nat Shilkret's various orchestras slay me.  I learned of him through "Travel Talks with James A. FitzPatrick."

Nothing beats this sort of thing for me.  I've been searching the internet to find some of Nathaniel Shikret's Traveltalk Orchestra to little avail.  Watch any of the "Travel Talks" that are about "exotic" places, and you will immediately hear the sounds that I associate with adventure.

Here's the closest thing I could find to that sound.  Strange, mysterious, and far away.  Think of me.

Mombassa.  The Seychelles.  Zanzibar.  FitzPatrick knew what he was doing.  But the films would have been flat as a board without Nathaniel Shilkret's Traveltalk Orchestra.

  1. Last night, I had my mother over for dinner. Afterwards, I put Travel Talks on the television. I want the transcripts of those shows.

  2. I've been enjoying them on YT since you mentioned them.

This one on India is fascinating.

There is a mention of the Hindu custom of sati (or suttee) which is a topic I have been researching for a number of years.
