The whole Bill Mahr/Muslim thing. Surely the safest course to take is to disagree with him. And as we know, the motto of this site is "Safety First." Still. . . will you stand up for the Koran as a moral guide? For religion in general? It is impossible any longer to divide the world into liberals and conservatives. These have become useless terms. Here is what I think I know. There is no right or wrong. There is only power. I feel I am sounding Nietzschean here which is a bit disconcerting only in that I could not make an argument about Nietzche's philosophies. I am not much versed in the writings, at least no more so than anyone who has read a few overviews and representative texts as we all were required to do in college. "God is Dead." Etc. That much, I know.
I feel, though, that the Bush Doctrine and fighting Ideology has taken over both sides of the aisle. We will ask warriors to parse out those who hold the "good" ideology from the "bad" before they act. That is surely the right way, of course. Meanwhile, however, ISIS becomes a real thing with real power. And the only thing that sways money is violence. Look at what is happening in Hong Kong. Those kids can't succeed any more than the Occupy Wall Street people did. Money and power will simply wait them out. It is only when the gun is at the head that the wealthy say, "Wait a minute. . . hold on. . . let's talk about this." There is no other motivation to do so. There will come a time when countries decide to hold talks with ISIS, perhaps under a different moniker, to negotiate, to make a peace.
I am stumbling and fumbling with this, though, for as I say, I am in no condition to speak of serious things. I should delete this, but it means writing something else, and I haven' time nor energy. As they used to say, it is what it is (which makes no sense at all).
